Coriolus Versicolor-Based Vaginal Gel Effective For HPV-Related Cervical Lesions

November, 11, 2023 | Other Cancers

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • This study analyzed the efficacy of Papilocare® in repairing low-grade cervical lesions and clearing HPV in routine clinical practice.
  • The Coriolus versicolor-based vaginal gel was effective in repairing low-grade cervical lesions and clearing HPV in patients over 40 in real-world settings.

The multicenter Papilobs study assessed the efficacy of Papilocare® in treating low-grade cervical lesions and clearing HPV in a real-world clinical setting. The study included women who were HPV-positive and showed ASCUS or LSIL in their cervical cytology, with matching colposcopy results. It received approval from the Ethics Committee of Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda Hospital in Madrid, and all participants gave informed consent. The treatment involved administering one cannula per day for the initial 21 days. This was followed by one cannula on alternate days for the subsequent five months. A sub-analysis focused on pts over 40 is included in the findings.

In the study, 201 patients were enrolled. In the sub-analysis focusing on those over 40, 74 individuals were examined. The study had 69 individuals who were over 40 with high-risk (HR) HPV. The Papilocare® treatment repaired cervical lesions in 82.4% of the pts over 40 and 81.2% of those over 40 with HR-HPV. HPV was cleared in 75.3% of pts above 40 and 73.5% of those above 40 with HR-HPV.

The Coriolus versicolor vaginal gel was effective in repairing HPV-dependent low-grade cervical lesions and achieving HPV clearance, specifically in pts over 40 and those over 40 with HR HPV, under real-world settings. This reinforces Papilocare® as a viable option vs. a watchful waiting strategy for HPV-related low-grade cervical lesions.
