[News] Middle-age lung screening for everyone who has smoked

NHS England is to offer lung cancer screening to everyone who has ever smoked in a bid to increase early detection rates for lung cancer and improve patient prognosis. The targeted national lung cancer screening programme, announced by the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care earlier this week, will identify current and former smokers aged 55 to 74 using patients’ GP records. Individuals will be assessed for cancer risk based on their smoking history and other factors, and those deemed to be high risk will be invited for specialist scans every 2 years.
