Globally, an estimated one in five people will develop cancer in their lifetime, and an estimated one in eight men and one in 11 women will die from the disease.1 The snowballing incidence, mortality, and burden of cancer are especially pervasive in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Nigeria, the largest country in the African continent with a population of 206 million people. In 2020, the estimated new cases and deaths from cancer in Nigeria were 124 815 cases and 78 899 deaths.
